Her dominating presence is, to me, inspiring. In an industry overrun by men, and their egos, the next rising star will have to kick, bite, and claw her way to the top. In my opinion, Megan Thee Stallion is the woman for the job. Like many female artists before her, her songs are rougher, both in sound and content. However, it rings true to Southern rap and is honestly refreshing when compared to the watered down and even numb music we’re being fed on our airways much of the time. Listening to her recent album, “Tina Montana” which was released earlier this year, I can’t help but find similarities between her music and that of T.I. and other iconic Southern rappers we’ve all loved. While it’s easy to draw comparisons between female rappers because there are so few who stand out from the crowd, I would liken her to another queen of the South, Trina.
Not only does she have the attitude of a rap icon in the making, but she also has the bars to make it. Megan has been writing her own raps since she was 14 years old and consistently delivers verses that are sure to match anyone currently making the charts. I predict that Megan Thee Stallion is the female artist to watch as we enter into 2019. Check out the video for her EP’s titular song and my personal favorite, “Tina Montana”, to see what all of the much-warranted fuss is about.
